      Christ-Child-Lullaby

You get pdfs of the piano/vocal score and the vocal score, and an mp3 recording of the arrangement.  Peter Amidon’s Guilford (VT) Community Church UCC Choir co-Director colleague Andy Davis suggested including the “Christ Child Lullaby” in their 2022 Christmas Eve services so Peter wrote this arrangement. “Christ Child Lullaby” was written by Father Ranald Rankin in about 1855 and is sung at Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve on Barra, South Uist and Eriskay in the Outer Hebrides. It was written in Scottish Gaelic and originally had 29 verses. There are now many versions of it in Gaelic and English.  Here is a wonderful version & performance from Brian O’Donovan’s Christmas Celtic Sojourns.

Lyrics

My love and treasured one are you
My sweet and lovely son are you
You are my loving darling you
Unworthy I of you.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Your mild and gentle eyes proclaim
The loving heart from which you came
A tiny tender helpless babe
What boundless gifts of grace.
