It was written in Scottish Gaelic and originally had 29 verses. There are now many versions of it in Gaelic and English.  Here is a wonderful version & performance from Brian O’Donovan’s Christmas Celtic Sojourns.

My love and treasured one are you
My sweet and lovely son are you
You are my loving darling you
Unworthy I of you.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Your mild and gentle eyes proclaim
The loving heart from which you came
A tiny tender helpless babe
What boundless gifts of grace.
