In the Amidons’ book & CD ‘Twenty-five Anthems for Interfaith & Community Choirs‘. Sung here by Friends-of-the-Amidons-Singers, Mary Alice soloist and pianist. Faya Rose Touré, of Selma Alabama, is a lawyer, and educator, and the first African American woman judge in Alabama. Mary Alice and Peter first learned this from the singing of Jane Sapp. it can be sung a cappella or with piano accompaniment.  The Amidons remembered it as “I’m Gonna Lift My Brother Up” and recorded it that way, but have since found that Faya Rose Touré titles and starts the song with “I’m Gonna Lift My Sister Up”. This works great both as a piano/SATB piece and a cappella. Here is Adam Podd of the Brooklyn NY UU Church knocking it out of the park.
