unison/piano – words & music by Alan Greene, Malvina Reynolds and Harry Belafonte – arr. Peter Amidon
Peter Amidon’s daughter-in-law, Zara Bode, sings on the recording – Peter on piano, Keith Murphy on supporting vocals – at the Amidon/Bode/Keith Murphy/Becky Tracy/Aidan Murphy 2015 Last Night (New Year’s Eve) concert in Brattleboro. Zara is singing it in C, but the music you get here is in D. Peter has always loved this song since hearing it in a TV commercial in 1960. You can sing this with a children’s choir, an adult solo, or adults and children together. It is quite poignant to have a child sing one of the verses solo.
LYRICS
Turn Around
by Alan Greene, Malvina Reynolds and Harry Belafonte
Where are you going, my little one, little one,
Where are you going, my darlin’ my own?
Turn around and you’re two,
Turn around, and your four,
Turn around and you’re a young one
Goin’ out of the door.
Turn around, turn around,
Turn around and you’re a young one,
Going out of the door.
Where are you goin’ my little one, little one,
Little blue jeans and ‘jama tops,
Where have you gone?
Turn around and you’re tiny,
Turn around and you’re grown,
Turn around and you’re all grown up
With babes of your own.
‘Turn around, turn around,
Turn around and you’re all grown up,
With babes of your own.
Where are you going, my little one, little one,
Where are you going, my darlin’ my own?
Turn around and you’re two,
Turn around, and your four,
Turn around and you’re a young one
Goin’ out of the door.
