SA (treble voices)/piano – traditional – arr. Peter Amidon

In “Fifty-five Anthems for the Small Church Choir“.  The recording you hear is the piano/SATB version in F. The pdf score you’ll get (piano/SA) is extracted from the piano SATB version. It is raised from F to G and the alto line is slightly changed. You can get a sense of what it will sound like in the third verse of the SATB recording where the men drop out and only the sopranos and altos sing. You get a piano/vocal score and a vocal score pdf.

Here is a beautiful rendition of the song sung by Logan and Faith Manning.

LYRICS

Watts’ Cradle Song
by Isaac Watts

Hush my babe lie still and slumber
Holy angels guard thy bed
Heavenly blessings without number
Gently falling on thy head.

Sleep my babe, thy food and raiment
House and home thy friends provide
All without thy care and payment
All thy wants are well supplied.

Soft and easy is thy cradle
Coarse and hard thy Saviour lay
When his birthplace was a stable
And his softest bed was hay.

Lo he slumbered in his manger
Where the horned oxen fed
Peace, my darling, here’s no danger
Here’s no ox a-near thy bed.

Hush my babe lie still and slumber
Holy angels guard thy bed
Heavenly blessings without number
Gently falling on thy head.
