The Amidons learned this and many more wonderful old American hymns (including "Angels Hovering Round") from Lucy Simpson. Lucy had gleaned most of these from her collection of 19th century American hymnals. Hallowell, the hospice choir Peter co-directs, often uses this in their vigil hospice sings.
